Rules of Membership

Rules relating to the criteria for eligibility for membership of the Association

  1. Introduction

    In these rules unless the context otherwise requires words and expressions importing:

    1. The singular number shall include the plural and vice-versa;
    2. Any one gender shall include all other genders; and
    3. Persons shall include bodies corporate and partnerships.
  2. Members

    Any person carrying on business in the United Kingdom and/or the European Union which satisfies the following criteria may apply to become a member of the Association. Those criteria are that:

    1. It is involved in the detection of leaks in construction and/ or the integrity testing of waterproofing systems.
    2. It directly employs its field-test employees and does not sub-contract integrity testing to external contractors.
    3. It can prove, to the reasonable satisfaction of the directors of the Association, a track record and competency in electronic integrity testing of waterproofing membranes and systems for a period of at least 6 months prior to its application for membership.
    4. It undertakes to the Association to enrol all its field employees from time to time (who have not already completed an equivalent qualification) on a Level 3 National Vocational Qualification training course in leak detection (or equivalent qualification), in either case approved by the directors of the Association, with a requirement that all its field employees complete the qualification within 2 years of enrolment on it.
    5. In the case of a body corporate, it will not permit any of its field employees to undertake integrity testing on any roofing or waterproofing contract which the body corporate concerned has installed or has been directly or indirectly involved in the installation thereof (for example, but not by way of limitation, where it has sub-contracted the installation to a third party).
    6. It will not undertake, nor permit, any person to undertake integrity testing on an installation where that person has been directly or indirectly involved in the execution of the contract for such installation.
    7. It will not undertake, nor permit any of its field employees to undertake, integrity testing on an installation which has been installed by a person who is connected with the member, “connected” for this purpose having the meaning in section 1122 of the Corporation Tax Act 2010.
    8. It undertakes to comply with the rules and requirements of the Association from time to time in relation to the resolution of disputes with and complaints from its customers.
    9. It accepts that defaulting on these criteria will render the member liable to disciplinary action, which could include suspension or expulsion from the Association without any refund of subscription and the withdrawal of any rights to make any references to the Association in literature, web sites or other promotional material.
  3. Associate members

    1. Persons falling into one of the following three categories may apply for associate membership of the Association:
      1. Manufacturers and suppliers of waterproofing systems which are capable of electronic testing.
      2. Manufacturers and suppliers of electronic test equipment which is intended to be used for integrity testing of waterproofing systems.
      3. Bona fide independent roofing and waterproofing consultants.
  4. Partners

    1. Applications are welcome from bona fide roofing and waterproofing contractors who are prepared to commit to the rules and principles of RAWTA by undertaking to have all their projects tested and certified by a RAWTA member.
